Turtle Monitoring
Carpentaria Contracting Env Projects

Up to 500 Marine Turtles will die this year in the Gulf of Carpentaria due mainly to disguarded Fishing nets.

But a Weipa based community group called 'Weipa's Cape Projects Group' is trying to tackle the problem !!!

Weipa's Cape Projects Group (CPG), a non profit organisation have estimated the cost of the Gulf mainland and islands net clean up at more than 4 million dollars.

It is estimated that at certain times of the year between eight and 11 nets per kilometre are on the Cape York beaches

No one is more frustrated then local Businessman and CPG spokeman Vance Wallin. 'CPG has indigenous representatives on it's board and documented support from the Cape York land Council and Local indigenous groups, but the agency's attempts to get beach clean-up funding have been blocked' he says
